Wings 'n' Skins!

My slow but steady weight loss has reversed direction. I just love food too much. I'll get back on track Monday hopefully.

Wish me luck!

So this is one of my favorite things from 99. Mom had a coupon and picked it up for me when she was there. Boneless buffalo tenders (with blue cheese) and potato skins (with sour cream).

Deee-freakin-licious!

That'll do, Pig.

Still Going!

Taken January 29, 2014
She's 17 years old, old enough to have her own license and approaching 280,000 miles.

Showing many signs of age and the rear bumper is disintegrating, but she rarely lets me down.

I wish I had something more economical but if I did, I would most likely keep the truck too. Why not?

Dusting

About an inch and a half of fresh stuff. That's fine; easy cleanup, at least in the north. Haha.

This is across the street from the house. It's actually part of the property. When they redid the road many years ago, it cut through the property, leaving a little sliver of land on the other side of the road.

Not sure why I mentioned that. Just Trambling* I guess.

Update: Google Auto Awesome strikes again!

*Trambling: the rambling I do either verbally or in print when I've taken Tramadol for my aches and pains.

Music...check.

Had Ozzy Osbourne Radio playing on Pandora while I tried out my lights and my sound hookup. Sounded pretty good and the lighting is not too pretty bad.

Still have a few things to do to have my studio area all set but it's pretty much useable now if and when needed.

I guess I should've cleaned up the radio and stuff - maybe I'll take more photos with it all cleaned up next.

Birdhouse Gourds

Taken 1/19/2014
Grew these little bahstards this summer. One of the only things the bugs, woodchucks and rabbits seemed to have no interest in.

Now they are drying - I know it doesn't look like it. The how-to I read online said not to worry about the mold. If I recall, as the mold dies/dries it leaves cool patterns on the surface of the gourd. I hope so.

I'll try to remember to update on the progress. I'm thinking one or two might rot but we'll see. For now I'm not touching them. They're not supposed to be disturbed, but then again who'd want to. :)

From Bad To Worse!

Taken January 19, 2014
Poor ol' canoe.
I really really want to fix this...so badly, but it's been sitting like this for so long I don't know if it will ever get done.
During one of the very windy rain and snow storms, it got blown upright and by the time I noticed it (it's kind of hidden where it is) this is what I found.
Poor poor ol' canoe. :(

Interesting paint job

I doubt it was done by the dealership named in the text. Ha ha.

I came across this at Hannaford's this evening. I don't think it's the first vehicle I've seen with this message on it.

It's probably best to keep your customers happy. :)

Hoooonk!

January 21

When I have to hang around Whitman for any reason, one of my favorite places to visit is Hobart's Pond. That is where I took this photo of some geese.

I also visited my old workplace, Home Depot in Brockton, Colebrook Cemetery, and Target in Abington (where I bought a small bag of Doritos and a Monster drink for lunch). Then I hung out with my son in the long line at his college's book store.

One of the many small birds gathered at and near the feeders during and after the snow storm.

Down By The River

January 23

Taken at the Old Bridge Street area - a popular local fishing spot and a put-in spot for canoeists and kayakers.

This is also where Middleboro's annual canoe race starts.

After uploading, I noticed Google added it's famous snow effect to a copy so that is the one I'm posting.

Rangoons, Chicken Wings and Pork Fried Rice
Looking for Chinese food in Middleboro, MA? Tiki Buddha is the best IMHO!

I've been going there for many years, since 2001 I think, when they were called China Buffet.

Friendly staff, good food.

Chatty Birds

Two hummingbirds, probably not really chatting but resting together. Maybe they were sizing each other up in anticipation of the dogfight that most likely happened after their rest was over.

Selfie

Taken 10-16-2013
Took this selfie after finishing up the final (original batch) product shoot.

Not the best but not the worst either. Actually the photo itself isn't too bad. I just needed a shave, and could've tidied up the background more, although I wanted some of the setup and lighting to be in the photo. lol

Keep your fins off me you damn dirty fish!

Guess what! I actually took this photo today! And posting it at a decent hour!

The slightly down side is that it's a rather poor quality camera phone photo, but hey! How often do you see fish swimming down the hospital hallway?

Hi Baby

Original photos taken January 5, 2011
A gif I made from a series of photos taken on one of the many walks I used to take with my friend Debbie at a nearby state park.

Debbie would always write a message for her husband in the snow or sand, take a camera phone pic of it, and send it to him at work.

 That's some cold water...

So, not much to say here. See yesterday's post about the photo a day not always being the photo FROM that day. :)

Taken January 8, 2013
What I wrote yesterday about my foot just became known today. Haha.

Of course you know I manipulate the dates. FYI, if the time of a post is 11:59 PM that means 1) I posted that entry, probably, the next day or the day after that and wanted the date of the post to be in proper chronological order 2) I posted that entry a little after midnight and wanted the date of the post to be in proper chronological order, or 3) I posted that entry at 11:59 PM that day (what are the odds?).

I'll often take the picture and either I don't download it to the computer right away or it needs some editing first. That's usually the reason for not posting it the same day.

This photo was taken 1/8/2013.

Photo A Day

OK the idea is to take a photo a day but on occasion, and especially when I'm not feeling my best, I'm still going to push myself to post a photo a day, even if I didn't take it that day. I was going to mention this anyway but I'm in a block now so this is a good time to bring it up.

It's not just the depression. I'm also dealing with general arthritic aches and pains, and pain in my foot that ranges from minor to severe, so while I usually can get around fairly well it's sometimes very hard to motivate myself to do so.

My foot is not the one that broke and didn't heal properly which hasn't been hurting very much lately. This is the other foot which had a severe callous that caused an ulcer in the good skin. With the neuropathy I would think I wouldn't feel it. Maybe that's why the pain is sometimes worse than other times. Maybe that's how it got to this point.

Taken January 3, 2013
So for the next couple days at least and from time to time, it'll be older photos.

I'll try to match the time frame or keep them time neutral and always state if it's not a photo from that day.

This is better than giving up the project. :)

Hope you enjoy.

Ghost of Project 365 Past

Been looking at my P-365 from 2009 (my first one), starting at the beginning and working my way towards present day. I'm really enjoying it as if i am just another "reader", laughing at my own jokes, ooohing and ahhing at some of the photos. lol.

Here's a photo from January 19, 2009.

Tracks in the Snow

Squirrel probably.

It was such a nice day. The snow didn't stay around long especially after the rain started. It actually hit 63°F today. Very nice for New England in the middle of January.

Sagamore Bridge Reshoot

I've had a night shot of the Sagamore Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal in my collection and in my Fine Art America profile (see here) but have never been totally satisfied with it. I went one night in December to retake it and I love how it came out, but alas, still not 100% satisfied.

My issues with this version are 1) the camera shook a little when I pressed the shutter causing small light trails from the many lights and stars - I should have used the remote, and 2) Because of the long shutter speed the headlights from the traffic on the bridge caused bright light streaks. Some streaks are a good thing but there were too many in my opinion. I think other than post processing, the only fix would be to go in the very wee hours when there is no traffic. I might try going right at dusk when I can get a shorter shutter speed but I have a feeling there may be even more traffic and the stars might not show. Also, I like how the long shutter speed turned the choppy water to silk.

Extra Jumbo!

Thought this might even be a triple-yolker, but nope - just a double. Made a nice Egg McMuffin though with shredded cheese and bacon bits, just a little ketchup, salt and pepper. Nice lunch.

I'm not all that good with photoshop. Trying to teach myself but I'm hoping to take one of the many classes and/or workshops that are out there. I think it would be quite benefiicial. Yup.

And Yum.

The Bridgewater Triangle Documentary

Went to a screening of The Bridgewater Triangle documentary tonight. After the film, the producers and other key people involved had a Q&A.

While I was very impressed with the documentary and all the work and research that went into it, I was happy to meet Alan Alves, third from right. He's a retired Freetown detective, who became known as the cult cop. A little about him here (scroll down a little). Any book about the paranormal or crimes involving cults in Massachusetts will have his name mentioned in it. He's had an impressive career.

Happy Birthday To Me

Not doing so well keeping up so far. I guess it's a habit to be developed, then I'll be on track.

This is one I took a couple weeks ago, enhanced by Google (snowflakes). A selfie seems appropriate since today is all about me. Ha ha.

Today I called my friend who has been very sick and we talked for awhile. I was happy to hear her voice. Thank God she is doing much better and is on the road to recovery. That was kind of a birthday gift for me, come to think of it.

Peanut Butter Fudge

Mmmm.

Too late for Christmas gifts this year but it will get distributed/eaten. Late gifts for some people.

I made two batches. The more I give away the less weight I'll gain. Haha.

TTFN

The paranormal team I'm on did a final investigation of a building we've been investigating for years, that will soon be torn down to make way for a haunted drug store.

It's such a beautiful old building, from the 1700s I think. It's a shame to see it go. That's progress I guess.

This is one of my favorite scenes, which I have photographed many times, unfortunately never in the best conditions for a quality photo. I cleaned it up a bit with Lightroom.

Chimes

Well, we got a lot of snow.

The area, without going for a walk (kinda dangerous on this street particularly when it's covered in a layer of snow) or a ride, didn't have much for photo ops, especially after shoveling a foot of snow from a 6-car driveway. So I took several photos but wasn't really enthused with any of them, but on my way back in the house I saw the wind chime hanging outside the window and thought, that will be my POD.

So here it is.

Soft Boxes

I bought a pair of these soft boxes with cfl lamps (5 each). Although they're low end, they seem really good. The stands will work but I would've preferred something a little bit heavier-duty. I may get some sand bags to help weigh them down. Only problem is: out of the 10 bulbs, 4 of them arrived in powder form and one just doesn't work. So I have to try to get a hold of the company - tried the email route and gave them plenty of time for the holidays but still no reply - and see if they'll replace the 5 bulbs.

I think I read if I can't resolve the problem with the seller, Amazon will give me a partial refund. Maybe I should just go ahead and go with that.

Well...time to go take a picture. :)

Snow Storm

We got our first snowstorm of 2014. Jason and I shoveled the driveway for the third time and I still needed a photo for here, so here it is. :)

While we were out shoveling, 3 or 4 cars came down the street and the one in front went into a skid and went off the road right across the street from where I was working. Once they got back on track I saw how close their tire tracks were to a large tree there. I joked with Jason that I'd have my POD (photo of the day) if that had happened, after I said I wasn't sure what I would do if they crashed.

I tried to get pics of the tire tracks/tree but no good, and tried a few artsy attempts for interesting photos, but this one is what I ended up with.

About My Photo A Day Project

I live by my own rules. Haha.

Here is some information about my version of the Photo A Day project (Project 365). Some of the info here is copy/pasted/edited from other posts in the project, in case it looks familiar to you.

This blog is also my main photography and mixed subject (general purpose) blog, as well as a weekly project which still hasn't gotten off the ground (Saturdays!). Project 365 posts are 'labeled' with the tag "365" and are titled "Photo A Day"
Update - From Mar 12, 2014 entry:
So I see no real need to put
Photo A Day as the title of these posts, as long as it and 365 are in the tags/labels. I think I may stop, and/or put (365) in the title like Jason does. Sounds like a plan.

The idea is to take a photo a day. It's meant to, among other things, keep one's creativity flowing and help prevent shooters' block. However, on occasion and especially when I'm not feeling my best, I might not pick up the camera. Forgive me. Sometimes it's very hard to get myself motivated, especially in the winter. I'm still going to push myself to post a photo a day, even if I didn't take it that day. I'll always try to remember to state when the photo was taken if it wasn't that day.

I sometimes manipulate the dates. I'll often take the picture and either I don't download it to the computer right away or it needs some editing first.* If the time of a post is 11:59 PM, that means:
  • I posted that entry, probably the next day or the day after that and wanted the date of the post to be in proper chronological order
  • I posted that entry a little (or a lot) after midnight and wanted the date of the post to be in proper chronological order, or
  • I posted that entry at 11:59 PM that day, in the proper chronological order (what are the odds?).
Enjoy, and please let me know if you're doing one of these or any other photography project. The more the merrier!

*At this time, my main PC is kaput and the card reader I bought for the laptop is junk. On my Canon EOS 50D, the USB stopped working a long time ago, so the only way to retrieve the photos is to use a card reader. I ocasionally use my mother's computer to retrieve them, add them to Dropbox, then download them to my laptop (external drive). For that reason and one of convenience and portability, most of my recent photos are from my Canon Powershot S5-IS. This is easier because the USB still works (and the laptop has a reader for that type of card), but the photo quality suffers just a little bit.

Photo A Day

Sunset

Will I stick with it? Good question. Right now, I am determined. I guess I didn't really say it for sure, but at least for now, my 365 will be right here in my Saturdays! blog.

I'm late with this one as the card reader I bought for my laptop is nfg. I hate being forced to buy cheap stuff that turns out to be junk.

My last photo of 2013. Sunset in Plymouth, MA. 12/31/2013
So anyway, here is my first entry. It's the very last photograph I took in 2013.

Project 365 posts will be 'labeled' with the tag "365" and be titled "Photo A Day".

Let me know if you're doing one of these or any other photography project.

Happy New Year!
